Google India Highlights AI's Role in Business Inclusivity
Google India Vice President and Country Manager Preeti Lobana stated that artificial intelligence functions as an economic equaliser, offering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) access to the same intelligence, speed, and security typically reserved for large global enterprises. Speaking at the Google Cloud Day event before an audience of over 600 business leaders, Lobana acknowledged that many growing businesses grapple with apprehension regarding the costs and technical complexities associated with AI adoption.
Addressing concerns about heavy infrastructure investments and large IT teams, Lobana emphasized Google's perspective on democratizing advanced technology. She noted that SMEs form a critical pillar of the economy, contributing nearly one-third of India's GDP and more than 35 percent of manufacturing output, while serving as a primary driver toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Moving Past Proof of Concept
According to Lobana, Indian industries have advanced beyond preliminary proofs of concept into active business transformation. The current focus centers on creating continuous intelligence engines designed to reduce operational friction, enabling personnel to focus on scaling and innovation.
To support broader technological advancement and infrastructure growth in the region, Google has committed USD 15 billion toward expanding digital and AI infrastructure in India. Key physical infrastructure projects include:
- An upcoming AI hub located in Visakhapatnam
- New subsea cables designed to enhance connectivity and provide low-latency computing
- Support for the broader IndiaAI Mission to reinforce the national digital foundation
