Barcelona Coach Flick Praises Lamine Yamal's Mentality After Ballon d'Or Result

Flick Highlights Yamal's Response

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stated on Friday that 19-year-old winger Lamine Yamal has reacted very well following the disappointment of missing out on the Ballon d'Or.

During the vote for the world's best player, Yamal finished third behind winner Harry Kane and runner-up Kylian Mbappe. This outcome followed a notable period for the player, which included winning La Liga with Barcelona and lifting the World Cup with Spain.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona's upcoming home match against Alaves, Flick addressed the award outcome:

• Coach's Assessment: Flick acknowledged that Harry Kane deserved the award but reiterated his high regard for Yamal's abilities, stating the young winger is at the level required to win it.
• Training Focus: According to Flick, Yamal showed strong focus and a positive response in training sessions.
• Team Impact: The manager emphasized that Yamal's mentality is highly beneficial for the squad.

Upcoming Fixtures and Recent Form

Yamal will have the opportunity to return to action on Saturday as Barcelona hosts Alaves. The team aims to recover following a challenging week that included two notable defeats.

• Recent Results: After starting the season with 11 consecutive wins across all competitions, Barcelona suffered a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, followed by a 2-1 home loss to Real Madrid.
• League Standings: Despite the recent setbacks, Barcelona maintains a two-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.

Flick stressed the importance of the upcoming fixture, noting that the primary goal is to secure a victory and demonstrate the team's capabilities against a defensively sound Alaves side. Looking at the broader campaign, the German coach reminded observers that the season is long and that trophies are decided at the end of the term.
