Manchester United Manager Michael Carrick Backs Bruno Fernandes Ahead of Chelsea Clash

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick stated on Thursday that he requires "no assurances" regarding his position at Old Trafford, despite facing intense scrutiny following a poor run of results. Speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture away to Chelsea, Carrick addressed media reports and maintained a defiant stance.

Current Form and Standing

• Manchester United sits one point above the relegation zone following a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
• The club has secured just two victories in 12 matches across all competitions this season.
• The team has accumulated seven points from eight league games, marking their worst start to a league campaign in 40 years.

Carrick on Bruno Fernandes and Team Spirit

Carrick defended club captain Bruno Fernandes, who was benched during the recent Bournemouth fixture following reports of tactical disagreements after a 4-1 defeat to Como.

• Carrick described Fernandes as a player who has led the team effectively for years.
• The manager stated that benching Fernandes was strictly a tactical decision for that specific match and affirmed the midfielder's commitment to the club.
• Carrick insisted that the squad remains hungry and shares the pain of recent defeats with the supporters.

Management and Future Outlook

Despite widespread media speculation regarding his potential dismissal, Carrick remains in charge. He noted that he does not require public backing from the club hierarchy, accepting the responsibilities associated with managing the 20-time English champions.

Former United captain Gary Neville publicly remarked on Thursday that managerial changes can sometimes occur for the benefit of all involved, reflecting the gravity of the club's current slump. However, Carrick confirmed he has no intention of walking away and remains focused on preparation for the upcoming weekend match.
