Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Previews Manchester United Clash and Provides Team News

Upcoming Premier League Fixture

Chelsea are scheduled to face Manchester United in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday at 12:30 GMT. Ahead of the scheduled match, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso addressed the media in a press conference to discuss team news, squad fitness, and recent fixtures.

Team News and Squad Updates

Alonso shared several updates regarding player fitness following their recent Carabao Cup match against Liverpool:

• Maxence Lacroix: The defender limped off during the Carabao Cup fixture and is expected to miss matches until the international break, remaining sidelined for a few weeks. Potential central defensive replacements include Wes Fofana, Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, and Jorrel Hato.
• Emiliano Martinez: The goalkeeper has an outside chance of returning before the international break, pending assessments next week. If cleared to play, he will be required to wear a protective face mask.
• Moises Caicedo and Pep Chavarria: Caicedo reportedly has no lingering issues after appearing to pick up a knock at Anfield, while Chavarria has returned to the squad.
• Jorrel Hato: Remains sidelined from regular action.

Addressing Recent Form and Player Roles

Alonso commented on returning to domestic competition following recent losses against Tottenham and Liverpool, emphasizing the importance of the Premier League as their main competition.

Discussing squad rotation and playing time for Estevao, who was named on the bench against Liverpool, Alonso stated that the player will receive opportunities as the season progresses, noting there is no discussion regarding a January loan move. He also mentioned that he spoke with Cole Palmer following his red card against Tottenham, focusing on tactical improvements rather than dwelling on the incident.
