Mumbai Indians Announces Major Coaching Staff Overhaul Ahead of IPL 2027

Coaching Changes at Mumbai Indians

In a significant restructuring effort ahead of the IPL 2027 season, the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise has announced the departure of three key members of its coaching staff. The changes come following a period of inconsistent results, which saw the five-time champions fail to reach the tournament finals for the last six seasons.

Departing Staff Members

According to the official announcement released by the franchise on Thursday, the following individuals have moved on from their roles:

• Lasith Malinga: The legendary former fast bowler, who served as the team's fast bowling coach for the past three seasons, has left the franchise. Malinga has a deep history with MI, having played for the team for 11 seasons and contributing to four title victories.
• Paras Mhambrey: The bowling coach, who had returned to the franchise ahead of the 2025 season, has also been released.
• Carl Hopkinson: The team’s fielding coach, who joined the staff in 2025, is no longer part of the setup.

The franchise expressed gratitude to the departing coaches for their dedication and contributions to the team's history.

New Strategic Direction

These staff changes follow the recent appointment of Kieron Pollard as the Head Coach for the 2027 season. Pollard, who has a 16-year association with the franchise, replaces Mahela Jayawardene. The team finished 9th in the points table during the 2026 season, prompting this internal review and restructuring.

Future Milestones

• Player Retention Deadline: All IPL franchises are required to submit their lists of retained and released players by November 15.
• IPL 2027 Auction: The official player auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Goa.

Fans and observers can verify these updates through official Mumbai Indians social media channels and the league's official press releases as the franchise works toward finalizing its coaching panel and squad composition.
