Pujara and Nayar Debate Ravindra Jadeja's ODI Future Ahead of New Zealand Series

Pondering the All-Rounder's Place in India's ODI Setup

Former India cricketers Cheteshwar Pujara and Abhishek Nayar have offered differing perspectives regarding Ravindra Jadeja's future in One Day International (ODI) cricket. The discussions follow the 37-year-old all-rounder's omission from India's squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Axar Patel currently serves as the team's first-choice left-arm finger spinner and primary all-rounder in the format. With an ODI World Cup scheduled for next year in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, Jadeja's absence from selection has prompted scrutiny over whether he remains in the team's long-term plans.

Differing Expert Assessments

Speaking on JioStar, as reported by news agency IANS, Pujara expressed the view that Jadeja's exclusion may indicate the conclusion of his ODI career, particularly given that he has already retired from T20 Internationals.

• Pujara's Assessment: Believes the team management may have communicated that Jadeja should focus on Test cricket, noting that Axar Patel is currently being favored with more opportunities.
• Nayar's Perspective: Offers a counter-view, suggesting that Jadeja could still serve as an "insurance policy" or backup option for the squad in the event of an injury to Axar Patel.

Upcoming Fixtures
