Wizards of the Coast Calls Reality Fracture Commander Deck One of Its Most Powerful Precons Ever

Inside the Reality Fracture Commander Strategy

Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture set is designed to close out a narrative arc featuring alternate-reality versions of classic characters. Amidst a busy release schedule, Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) has taken a focused approach to the expansion's support for the Commander format by releasing only a single preconstructed deck, titled Multiverse Reforged.

According to WOTC Game Designer Gavin Verhey, the decision to produce just one precon mirrors the strategy used for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover set. Rather than splitting attention between two decks of differing popularity—a scenario that historically left retailers with uneven stock—the design team concentrated their resources into a single, high-impact offering featuring a four-color identity and a Planeswalker Commander in Jace.

Developer Insights and Power Level

While players often view preconstructed toolboxes as flexible frameworks for future upgrades, internal evaluations at Wizards of the Coast place the Multiverse Reforged deck near the top of the format's historical power curve.

“I think it's kind of funny that people see it as a toolkit,” Verhey noted, adding that many within the development team consider the precon “among the most powerful we've ever released!” The list includes alternate legends from Magic’s past, such as The Ur-Sphinx, alongside the Jace Echoverse Commander.

Practical Implications and Verification

For Commander players and collectors evaluating the Reality Fracture release, understanding the single-deck strategy and its stated power level helps contextualize availability and pricing on the secondary market.
