Paul Bettany Reveals He Blew Out 10 Blood Vessels in His Eye Filming 'VisionQuest'

Physical Toll on Set

While playing a largely indestructible artificial intelligence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series *VisionQuest*, actor Paul Bettany encountered very human physical limitations. During a recent appearance on *Jimmy Kimmel Live*, Bettany shared that his intense commitment to a specific sequence resulted in a minor physical injury.

According to the actor, the incident occurred while filming a dramatic scene where his character interacts with a fictional device affecting his mind. Bettany admitted to "wildly overacting" for the take, which subsequently caused him to rupture about 10 blood vessels in his eye.

Practical Implications and Production Costs

• The actor reported that his eye remained visibly red for approximately two weeks following the incident.
• Bettany joked that digital correction of the redness "must've cost production so much" in post-production visual effects.
• Highlighting the contrast between actor and character, he added humorously that he is quite myopic in real life and cannot see clearly without his glasses.
