UPESSC Principal and Headmaster Recruitment 2026 Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released official notifications for the recruitment of Principals (Advt. No. 08/2026) and Headmasters (Advt. No. 09/2026) in aided non-government schools across Uttar Pradesh. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online through the official portal.

Vacancy Details

A total of 2,647 vacancies are available under this recruitment drive:

• Principal: 1,475 posts
• Headmaster: 1,172 posts

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure they fulfill the required educational and experience criteria before applying:

• Principal: Postgraduate degree with at least 50% marks, B.Ed. degree recognised by NCTE, and a minimum of 4 years of teaching experience as a Lecturer or Assistant Teacher in higher classes (Class 9 to 12) or 4 years of experience as a High School Headmaster.
• Headmaster: Postgraduate degree, B.Ed. or B.P.Ed. degree recognised by NCTE, and 4 years of teaching or administrative experience as specified in the notification.
• Age Limit: Candidates must not be more than 62 years of age as of 1 July 2026. The minimum age requirement is 30 years.

• Principal: ₹2,000
• Headmaster: ₹1,500
• Payment Mode: Online via credit card, debit card, or net banking through the portal's payment gateway.

Selection Process

The selection procedure comprises the following stages:

1. Written Examination: Carries 360 marks featuring objective-type multiple-choice questions with negative marking for incorrect answers.
2. Interview: Carries 40 marks for shortlisted candidates.

Final merit lists will be prepared based on the combined scores out of 400 marks.
