Overview of CADCraft
CADCraft is an open-source, modern two-dimensional and three-dimensional computer-aided design and drafting application developed in pure Rust by the ArtCraft team. Designed to provide a fast and familiar drafting workflow, the application supports core design elements such as command lines, object snaps, layers, dimensions, hatches, blocks, and DXF drawings.
Platform Support and Architecture
The software runs natively across multiple operating systems, including macOS (universal binary), Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD. Additionally, a WebAssembly build allows users to run the application directly inside web browsers. Built utilizing pure Rust and the egui framework, CADCraft operates without relying on Electron or web view components.
File Compatibility and Interoperability
CADCraft reads and writes DXF files natively, supporting both ASCII and binary formats from R12 through 2018. Through the open-source `acadrust` library, DWG files spanning versions R13 through 2018 can also be opened and saved. Furthermore, users can export their work directly to SVG and PNG formats.
- Native DXF and DWG support via open libraries
- SVG and PNG export capabilities
- Command-line interface designed for human drafters and automated agents alike
Automation and Agent Integration
Every menu item, tool, and prompt within CADCraft is structured as a command. This architecture allows automated agents to interact with the software by typing at the command line, executing commands via JSON, inspecting drawings to verify accuracy, and rendering outputs. These capabilities are accessible over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a JSON control channel, or the command-line interface.
Licensing and Availability
CADCraft is distributed under dual licenses—either the MIT License or the Apache-2.0 License, at the user's discretion. The application requires no user accounts or subscriptions. Official builds and checksum verification files are hosted on the project's official GitHub repository.
